First Friday Poetry—March 2024

Is it March already? Where has the time gone?
This month I decided to do something a little bit different. My word of the year is Balance, and I have been trying to incorporate more wonder and awe in my life in order to help me feel more balanced. This week, I took out the book “Wonder Seeker: 52 Ways to Wake Up Your Creativity + find your joy” by Andrea Scher from the library. One of the exercises was “spine poetry”—that is, making a poem from the titles of books—and since I haven’t done that in a long time, I decided to try it again.
It was a blast!
My first poem was short, but I thought it was very powerful.

“Joyful” was the nonfiction book that I most recommended in 2022.

My second poem was longer and chock full of advice. (Remember to read just the titles!)

So did you write a poem for today’s challenge? If so, feel free to leave it (or a link to it) in the comment section. I’d love to read it!
And if you end up doing some spine poetry too, I’d be thrilled if you leave me a picture of your poem.
Make sure to check out Bev’s poem too, which she wrote for the 50 Precious Words Challenge.
See you in April!

These are just lovely! I’ve bookmarked Joyful. I might even get around to reading it! I wonder if we become more aware of the glory in ordinary things because we age, or if it’s just that we have more time for appreciation. My mother was pretty good at it all the time, especially when it came to nature. I like to think she passed some of that on to me.

Here is my poem for today.

That’s a good question! Maybe with experience we realize that it’s the small joys that help us weather our days. Thanks for joining in with your beautiful sunrise poem and its accompanying images.
